Yoga

My approach to yoga is centered on offering a space where people can move in a way that feels right for them. I encourage exploring feelings and sensations through yoga, with an emphasis on choice and personal exploration.

I believe that yoga is more than just a physical practice—it’s a powerful tool for deepening connection with self and others, calming the mind, and expanding our capacity to hold and navigate life’s experiences.

Yoga also complements my broader therapeutic practice. It provides a practical, embodied way to support emotional and mental well-being, helping to integrate the body and mind in a holistic approach to healing and growth.

I teach a class on Tuesday evenings at Every Body Studio in East Oxford at 7:30pm. This "Flow to Restore" session is designed to guide you through a yoga flow, followed by restorative poses, all within a beautiful and welcoming space.

Trauma Sensitive Yoga

What is Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga?

It is a practice to support people healing from trauma that was adapted from Hatha yoga alongside therapeutic theories. You can find out more about its development here

Trauma sensitive yoga offers and a pathway back to feeling and connection with your body. There are two main parts to a session - being invited to make choices around how you move and connecting with how your body feels.

The focus in a session is not how a physical shape looks but how it feels and moving in a way that works for you.

What happens in a session?

Sessions can take place either online or in-person.

It is a body based practice and does not involve talking about someone's experience of trauma.

In the session I will describe and suggest different shapes or movements that might be suitable for you. Then, if it feels comfortable, I'd invite you to notice how your body feels. The aim is to work towards you feeling as you have ownership and control over your own body.

Classes might be more conversational than a typical studio yoga class, for example we might talk about what language I use and check in what feels comfortable for you. My aim is that sessions are as collaborative as possible and they work for you. I use visual aids like a deck of cards with yoga shapes on for you to choose from.

There is never the intention to build up to or include a specific shape, movement or breathing exercise. For example, certain shapes or whole areas of the body may not be included in a session if it helps you feel more comfortable. The intention is always to build safety for you however that may look or feel, as there is no right or wrong way to have a body.

Trauma sensitive yoga does not work with set treatment goals as having a body is personal and subjective. Rather the aim is for me to create a space for you to explore being with your body at whatever pace and way that works for you.

When might TCTSY might not be the best fit?
